New Solar Homes Partnership

(NSHP) is part of the comprehensive statewide solar program, known as the California Solar Initiative. The NSHP provides financial incentives and other support to home builders, encouraging the construction of new, energy efficient solar homes that save homeowners money on their electric bills and protect the environment.

Reduce utility bills.
Using California's abundant sunshine, homeowners save money on their bills through new energy efficient solar homes.

Coupling energy efficiency with solar technology reduces the homeowner's total energy needs and reduces utility bills.

Get paid for energy efficiency.
Homes from builders participating in the New Solar Homes Partnership are at least 15 percent more efficient than current building standards.

Builders are also encouraged to achieve 30 percent greater efficiency. California's utilities may offer additional incentives to help meet these efficiency levels.

Protect against rising energy costs.
Energy efficiency and solar energy give homeowners more energy independence because they are better protected against rising energy costs.

Solar homes generate power when electricity is the most expensive.

Earn tax credits.

Solar homes also qualify for a federal income tax credit. Energy efficiency measures may qualify the home for an additional $2,000 in federal tax credits.

Incentives for Solar and PV(Photovoltic) Systems

California Solar Initiative (CSI)

(CSI) is the solar rebate program for California consumers that are customers of the investor-owned utilities - Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).

The CSI offers solar customers different incentive levels based on the performance of their solar panels, including such factors as installation angle, tilt, and location rather than system capacity alone. This performance framework ensures that California is generating clean solar energy and rewarding systems that can provide maximum solar generation.

The CSI program has a total budget of $2.167 billion between 2007 and 2016 and a goal to install approximately 1,940 MW of new solar generation capacity. The CSI-Thermal portion of the program has a total budget of $250 million between 2010 and 2017, and a goal to install 200,000 new solar hot water systems.

The Energy Commission is temporarily suspending the Emerging Renewables Program (ERP) effective March 4, 2011, at 5 pm PST.

New applications for ERP rebate reservations will not be accepted after this date. The Energy Commission will, however, continue to process payment claims for rebate reservations approved before this date.
